A few years ago, Bob Taylor helped Kevin locate a used CNC machine. This CNC will be used to cut bridges, necks, rosettes, and do other tasks. When I visited the ryan shop in February of 2005, Kevin had created a jig to hold several bridge blanks in place, and was testing a program he'd written to do the first phase of cutting on a blank. In this video, you'll see a piece of scap mahoghany being cut. Once the cut is done, two holes are drilled in the blank. Although not included in this video, the blank will then be placed on another jig, and more shaping will occur. On that jig, pins are inserted into the two holes to hold the blank in place.

Radiusing the sides

Ryan guitars all feature an arched back. In this short video you'll see the jig Kevin created to cut the sides to the right shape to receive the back.

Spraying a headstock

Kevin was asked by a client to do a repair on a peghead. Once the repair was done, he re-sprayed it. This video shows him in the spray booth.

A short demo of the laser cutter

During a visit to the shop in August 2007, Kevin demo'd the laser cutter for my family.
